How we take for granted
our little feathered friends
though wild they live close by us
and the message that that sends
is they like the art of singing
melodic through and through
the countryside is a living space
but there are city dwellers too
which makes you think they are thinking
and have,feelings for us too
sure some of us feed them
but a lot don’t
what about you?
I’m sure as children
you fed the ducks
with bits of old stale bread
and they swam in from afar
sometimes
and many got well fed
we shared and learned to share
a little with the wilder folk
who sang their songs for nothing
and seemingly they spoke
they quacked
and seemed to enjoy it
its clear it helped, and we
got satisfaction from the fact
that they came and we could be
part of their sweet precious lives
if only for a while
go every day and do it
and the birds are going to pile
in on you they’ve told their chums
and all sorts will be there
feeding birds
is beyond words
so please be more aware
get a plastic bottle
shove a wooden spoon through it
and a hole above the spoon
fill it up with wild bird seed
hang it on a tree
and in your garden you will hear
at a tune
they will bring the wild flowers
showers will fall and they
will bring the fruit upon their backs
every single day
and soon the wild adornments
will show their pretty head
and you will have a little splash
from a brand new wild flower bed
In India and other places
where food might not be
so evident a few sweet souls
provide it and we see
many of these little friends
fly in, so learn to share
for thinking of our
feathered friends
and more will then be there
