Animal Rights in China

Animals Rights in China
is steeped in history
of what some would call animal hell
and certain misery
in open markets they display
frantic victims
such dismay
peering through their rusty bars
evidenced by many scars
these animals have
been bashed about
of that there really is no doubt
tossed about in filthy crates
and a smile or two
ne’er compensates
for the cruelty that is clearly there
on all their faces
which all share

doleful eyes
and injured ears
broken teeth
and lots of tears
these hound dogs
consigned to be
cooked in soup for
someone’s tea

But there seems a new awareness
more people seem to feel
that animals have a place
in their lives
and not just as a meal

more have invested in pets
and clearly understand
the need to offer kindness
and lets hope this does expand

the feeling towards animals
on a positive note, for they
might get a better showing
and more people might say

that its wrong to mistreat animals
particularly cats and dogs
who fill these battered cages
along with the odd hogs

China has been contemplating
passing certain laws protecting
earthling souls
but really they are struggling
with their culture
wondering whether
they can bring in these new controls

on china at this time and moment
in rural area’s, its not the same
people still eat dogs and cats
and won’t believe they shouldn’t
no matter what the authorities now claim

but there’s a new emergence
Animals Rights are there
entering the new’s affray
and are, trying to share

a little of their passion
hopeful they can try
and change the system operating
and may, by and by

Tiger Farming
Bear bile harming
cats and dogs and frogs
pangolin and rhino horn
in this great wheel are cogs
turning ever slowly
but turning just the same
and China might be witnessing
an new eternal flame

the activists are out there
something’s on the turn
the internet and face book
fill souls with concern
a sea change may be on the cards
its tangible and we
hear the psyche whirring
and may take off finally

crush video’s the world was shocked
apparently twas true
and it gave some the impetus
to really try to do
everything in their power
to bring those creeps to law
and it appears
the animals people can’t ignore

so lets just wait and listen
let the activists, be
the 1000 dogs caught up in
the chongqing road rage melee
the accident that happened
the police are on the case
China may be changing
and may not be the disgrace

but as I say its huge
and what can happen in Beijing
is so far from Guangdong
and we must
really hope to bring
some semblance and some reason
and hope we may succeed
in helping legislation
and who knows where that
might lead

I do so hope China makes a change to the laws on animal abuse. After seeing horrific videos of what they do to poor defenseless animals. I have have nothing good to say. Maybe the media has reached them, and the hatred that has been bestowed on them, maybe, just maybe they might consider that a dog, cat, bear or any animal is not there for soup, bile or trade. We will watch and see how things might change.
