Out of the mouth’s of babes

Out of the mouth’s of babes
comes innocence and joy
but sadly thanks to some
parents ideas
some now employ
the strategy that children
should now be taught the ways
of trapping,and hunting and killing
and prove now how it pays

we get rid of the vermin
that chews our plants and, we
pack stuff in our freezer
and all of it is free
no plastic trays to toss away
the bones are cooked as well
hunting is so worthwhile
and the fur too we can sell

that’s one way, of teaching
the children, I suppose “all things wise and wonderful”
and all that piffling prose
is senseless when the innocent
can’t see the wrong that’s done
when parents take them hunting
and they learn to fire a gun

to me its reprehensible
to plants seeds of this kind
and see them plump to kill wild souls
instead of leave behind
a perfect little earthling
as precious as can be
take a photo, by all means
but let the others see
what miracles these earthlings are
wolves, coyotes, bears
any soul a foraging
on god’s earth, in our prayers
we share the bounty never kill
never take a life
that is where their value is
not served with a fork and knife
