A deer took revenge

It happened in France
in a forest, and we
saw that the hunter
was down on one knee
caught in the act
of trying to kill
a deer who went for him
and clearly this will

remind him, and us
that animals do
have a place on this earth
and those of us who
think we have the right, to end
this creation
by shooting them dead
and obtaining salvation
have to realise that
this Deer wasn’t ready
he butted and pounded
the hunter, unsteady

who broke under pressure
and his blood did flow
from the two flailing legs
and the continued blow
the bruises were clearly
part of the whole thing
the Deer kept on going
great pain he did bring

the fool with the bow
took his hammering well
and might at least spend
a few days in dark hell
clearly bones broken
and feeling forlorn
he wished, really wished
that he hadn’t been born

those of us watching
deciding that we
would like to see more of this
for that deer’s qi
was feisty and ready
to
take on the world
and pick up that hunter
and, see him hurled

into the dark place
where normally Deer’s
have to go, goes to show
a sharing of tears

Whether the hunter felt
some revenge
or whether decided to
call it a day
frankly I hope
that the injuries were
painful enough that forever
he’ll pay
