What have Corvids to do with exploding Toads

With thanks to the BBC weird side of Nature shown last week on BBC TV
one of the stories I thought I would commit to rhyme

In Hamburg a few years ago
A pond of Toads became
Embroiled in quite a mystery
And found their way to fame
It appeared they had exploded
Their entrails yards away
Bloated it was noted
and spread=eagled so they say
And no one had the faintest idea
Just what happened here
Until post mortems were carried
out
and then it became clear
Corvids are exceptional
There brains are up there, they
Can figure out all sorts of strange
and wonderful things each day
Of course they knew the toads skin
was as poisonous as hell
But its physiology and anatomy
was something they knew well
And so they used their sharp beaks
In exactly the right spot
And ate the poor Toads liver
and great nutrition got
The Toads now minus liver
Soon realised that they
Could not make it happen
and exploded right away
Corvids had stood up to
lots of scrutiny
And their intelligence, was way
beyond what most thought it could be
