Fleas

Blood sucking insects
That’s what we be
Living on birds and mammals for free
When we clip our hedges
These creatures may bite
Wingless quite tiny
A bit of a fright

Their back legs are long
For prodigious leaps
Cat fleas or dog fleas
Sometimes on peeps
It’s only the mumma flea
That tends to suck
Never the babies
The ladies their luck

Is better than most
The blood for their kids
Looking for a host
A permanent resident
Is what they need
Lots of itchy bites
And a need to succeed.
