Lolita remembers

I remember the beautiful
glacial waters
The wonderful life forces
sharing where I
Swam in my wildness
in depths where the basins
450 feet down even deeper
930 feet into the darkness
A large inland estuary
Close to the ocean
Brimming with creatures
Porpoise and whales
All sorts of sharks
Clams and those great mussels
Sea stars and crabs
Harbour Seals
Secret trails

To be hunted and brought
To the vilest environment
A rotten pool made of concrete
And light
Transfused through my being
The ugly music crescendo’s of purgatory
Yes I was seeing

The pollution back there
Seattle Tacoma Everett Bremerton
Humans so many
Waste and the darkest of degeneration
Spilt into the sound
In its design
Really the anguish we all felt
The angst
Our beautiful water
Once lavishly pure
Was fast becoming
Squanderingly wasteful
Ungenerous scrimping
No longer a cure

All those years on my mind from my heart
Tense and sickly
Made to do tricks
For the insane who came
The stench of humanity
Cold and impassive
Not only the trainers
But you lot are to blame

Where The water was cold
And there was a bountifulness
Life undertook there was promise
Around us
Underwritten by our gods
Our rights and the sea
The freedom enjoyed
The great liberation
An absolute privilege
And immunity

Becoming the prisoner
Captive unlawfully
Resigned to that fact
All those long years
A watery dungeon
A corporate servant
Taught by those trainers
Simpletons who
Sought our obedience
And our devotion
Our mutinous spirits
And rebellious notion

There was never gentleness
Only commandments
Rules regulations
Dead frozen fish
Nothing was living
Just ultimatums
Inflexibility
My only wish from the
Violence and pain

We missed The Lummi
The Indigenous tribes there
Their glorious muttering
Positively
They sang their great songs
That we picked up and swam with
Promising peacefulness
And joyfully
Mutual understanding
The truest rapport
Families together harmony
For evermore k

Resigned to the capture
To be passive and yielding
Bowing and scraping
Inevitably
Paying homage to arse holes
Of tiny persuasion
Hampered and hindered
I would never be free

Undermined and ground down
Impeded and tangled
No depth to speak of
No where to go
The chemical water
Choking no joking
Adulteration
Contusions and sores
Germ laden and awful
I lost my salvation
Exhausted and bored with it all
So the cause

Just to cease
just to close my eyes
Be in the graceful
Sleep in my elegance
for evermore.
