Hazel Hill Scrap a chestnut pony

Unworldly possibly guiless
We wander
Through the forest the new forest
And We ponder
Often together thinking
How peaceful it is here
Where idyllic glades and sweeping moor land
Erupts to bring us cheer

Shadows cast by forest trees
Heathers burning bright
Tracts of open pasture
And the vividness of light
We are forest ponies
And we enjoy the space
The freedom that just wells up in you
Walking at a pace

Taking in the frosty air
And sharing the bird song
Puffing as we mount a slope
It is where we belong
The roads though are a problem
The humans drive too fast
Especially in the blackness of the night
With shadows cast

Those unfriendly beaming light shafts
That can suddenly appear
Erratic and dramatic bringing
With it abject fear
We love our lives together
There are several ponies who
Truly love each other
And care yes we all do

We know the road is dangerous
And humans seemingly
Drive fast on their headlights
Which is dangerous actually
For me despite my caution
Last evening I alone
Was walking closer to the road
And was clipped, a broken bone

In my leg and injuries
Internally oh dear
Alone out in the darkness
And none of my friends near
The motorist sped off
And I was in some agony
Shaking like a leaf I was
Wondering how I’d be

It was cold and frosty
And I was in deep shock
I decided I would close my eyes
Somehow try and block
It all out of my psyche
Just try to rest a bit
Knowing I was hurting
Somewhere in the pit

Of my stomach
there was lots of pain
And my leg was throbbing so
And clearly such an injury
Forced my soul to go

When the others found me
They realised that I
Had been clipped and was broken
And, that I did die
And so they all held vigil
Perhaps I was asleep
And their collective caring
Would reach however deep

Its true that we are animals
Of the tribe equine
Our love for one another
Really does align
With love sharing and caring
Its an undertaking we
All devote to each other
We engage collectively

It probably took a half an hour
For me to die today
And all because of some speeding car
If some of you would pray
For my soul and the other ponies
Who have had to die
At least those left can ponder
And hopefully apply

more care close to the road at night
Not be skittish and unaware
Thats when accidents happen
And thats linked with despair
Some drivers Put their foot down
Imagining that we
Could never be crossing the road
Hence what happened to me
