Lichen long lived and silent

Gravestones and standing stones
Of considerable age
Attract, it appears
The lichens who gauge
Sedentary staging
A life force as such
Algae and cyanbacteria
Much
Among living filaments
Of fungi we see
Symbiotic relationships
Thats where they be

At Rollrights the great stones
In Their crevices I
Saw bright green cushions
Their cortex high
A photobiant layer emerging to show
A softness and a brilliance
And peculiar glow

I suspect they are light
For the land where the fae
Emerge in the darkness
And are seen to play
Attracted by moles who
Build their hills high
Gelatinous mosses
That point to the sky

Often they are ancient
The first living things
Etched onto bare rock
Which is what brings
The eye to the crevices
It is the air
And a lack of pollution
That they need to share
