Rosebud

The Lakota a proud people
A sovereign nation
The reservations
Who have their own laws
Women apparently lost
Now in time
Sexual abuse
The figures they climb
Families close ranks
Retribution can be
Fierce amongst families
A big problem we see

Many get raped
Many abused
Many will not report
Crimes they have refused
They know that to do this
Retaliation
Can come in the form
That means the reservation
Is dangerous its ugly
And homicides are
Sadly on the increase
You cannot go far

So you will be hounded
Constantly checked
Its so patriarchal
Whose is adept
To this man thing
This power thing
Nobody cares
And not enough police
Not even in pairs

Alcohol pumps up the parties
And they
Are often in abandoned houses
A way
From anywhere else
Loud music and booze
Gang raping happens
They have little to loose

Some have been murdered
And nothing is done
Tied up and gang raped
And beaten no fun
For the women out partying
Intimidation
There is no deterrent
On the reservation

A few women’s hostels
But again under fire
Some leave the reservation
When life gets dire
But really there is no hope
For women abroad
And many will suffer
Or die by the sword

Unemployment is massive
Some eighty per cent
Not enough police
And a lot of dissent
Parents are out drinking
Thats what they do
Drowning their sorrows
Now very few

Care about their children
The gangs do their thing
And women are raped
This crime they now bring
To the table of consciousness
Hopeful that they
May get a hearing
But sadly today

The indigenous women
Are given short shrift
With no graduation
Of course theres a rift
Its shard to imagine this great nation
Was
Once proud and stalwart
But now well because

They are poor and they feel
There is now just no hope
This alienation it is hard to cope
As youngsters on alcohol
With little to do
No real motivation
Their misfortune is true
Life does get weary
Its wretched as well
If, this is freedom
It feels more like Hell
