The lioness and the oryx

The predator and the baby oryx
The affinity between
Each other though improbable
A bond in fact has been
Had, a true relationship
A perspective to behold
There is no logical explanation
Of how it did unfold
Except to feel the lioness
Was lonely and in fear
And in consequence was clearly
Touched by having an infant near
Adoption not a consequence
Kidnap maybe she
Felt motherly towards the soul
Kind of obsessively
It’s so touching to realise
That these emotions do
Permeate the predators
For clearly
it is true
The female of the species
Has that caring loving side
More so than the male lions
As the end game might decide
The outcome was the baby was taken
As we know and eaten by a male lion
But the lioness she did show
The anguish of a mother
For a lost cub
You could see
The great concern for losing
The baby, earnestly
We feel we are touched to see this
How it panned out for she
Then adopted 5 more babies
A similarity
An emotional behaviour
A maternal bond that spread
Across and out through instinct
That sweet connection led
To caring for another
Lost soul so to say
Unrelated possibly
But love shows us a way
Perhaps the most profound love
Is the love we really see
Between those who are quite different
Bound together emotionally
