Owls of the modern age

Owls of the modern age

have to account for so much more

armed with perspicacity

already they are a law

unto themselves for certain

but with family and with friends

who may lapse into mundanity

it  really kind of sends

mixed messages around the place

causing adversity

and some humiliation

and mediocrity

the uniqueness so apparent

sees off the myriad glare

the conspicuous circle of feathers

and facial disk aware

adjusted to sharpen focus

on sounds where ere they be

far sighted is this reckoning

the strigiformes can see

with small beaks and wide faces

though sleep apnea may be

quite a dark preponderance

upon a forest tree

no matter its incredulous

the insight that these souls

have that innate purpose

and great set of controls

up against the drifters

nocturnal  now alas

perhaps crepuscular activity

finds its own morass
