Castell Harlech

Since 1289 this majestic castle
Has stood feeling strong as can be
950 tireless brave workman
Piled stone upon stone
Near the sea
Imagine the weight of these boulders
With Some kind of scaffolding they
Built up these battlements sturdy and strong
And no doubt the threat of the sea
KING Edward 1st had commissioned it
To protect from the wind and the waves

With his vast expertise designed good and true
It stands here today
As majestic as ever
Walls within walls
A splendid endeavour

Today was St David’s day
No admittance fee
I went along
With my friends
They took me
The wind off the sea
Really tested my gait
It was exciting
A castle to rate

When built it cost eight thousands pounds
And a bit
Harlech has an aura
For me it did sit
Well in my thoughts
A nice little place
A good range of shops
A township of Grace

Some interesting stone buildings
The steepest made up road
We went down it slowly
Clearly it showed
Itself to be needing
A very low gear
The sharp bends concerning
Yes, that was clear

From Dolgellau to Harlech
On the Barmouth Road
Following the estuary
It just does bode
Well for the traveller
The landscape around
Where it all meets the sea
That’s what I found

Through various places
With differing stone
Houses and cottages
Time clearly shown
A weathering surely
But picturesque too
It’s a glorious ride out
With, an enchanting view

My neighbours Laura and Hari And Dewi
They shower me with welcoming
And I am very
Happy to be out seeing the sights
Joining. Their family
Really at the heights
Of joyousness I be old now and they
Treat me like family
In a lovely Welsh way
