Chairman Mao and the Sparrows

When asked most people
Will tell you the worst disease around
Is Cancer it kills huge numbers
In purgatory they are drowned
Chairman Mao in 1958 decided He
Would murder every Sparrow
And do it avidly
An so he told his people
To kill every bird they see
Because each bird eats massive
Amounts of grain
And that was key

Instructing his
population to murder them
Until
Every single Sparrow
The Nation State did kill
His ignorance of Nature
And arrogance though was
That Sparrows also ate Locusts
So killing them because
They ate grain seeds daily
Mean’t what in fact he did
Watched some 45 million people starve
All this in his bid

To rid his precious China
Of the Sparrow and he saw
That the Natural Order
He had usurped
Brought so much blood and gore
Millions of his people starving
Locusts everywhere
The chairman was the cancer
And his actions brought despair

Cap in hand to the Soviets
He frantically did buy
250,000 Sparrows
And for now he knew why
Cancer wasn’t the reason
Ignorance alas
His ignorance and arrogance
Was why people en masse
Starved to death
The Natural order broken by
the man who allowed his arrogance
To pick up and just fly
And His ignorance of Nature
Was the reason why.
