6.40 Sunday Morning
Ashridge and the birds
pigeons on the roadway
and ducks too
lost for words
clearly after night time
Pigeons know that they
will pick up a good breakfast
At the start of every day
windless a still offerIng
peace is to be seen
ashridge is now mine
to see and feel
a seminal sign
changes are now happening
blossom everywhere
the Gorse is rich and golden
and birds are prone to share
the early bird catches the worm
it apparently is so
they also clear up road kill
as if we didn’t know
those sleep ins
still in warm beds
are unlikely to see
what goes on in the country lanes
now in front of me
quietly sitting in my car
a squirrel comes to see
Darting this way darting that way
he is constantly
timid in his output
but seemingly wants to
see what it is I am doing
Despite the morning dew.
the trees are apparently sleeping
quietly in repose
leaning this way leaning that way
this is how they pose
a stillness not a flutter
One dog walker he
bare legged is out here seeing
some blue sky actually
the light is quite fantastic
pigments come and go
The odd car plies the roadway
and pigeons they well know
to leap into the sky space
And come back down to feed
clearly they are prudent in the
ways they choose to feed.
