Being expected to win in every race is cruelty personified

It’s unbearably unfair
To expect horses to run
Faster than they can
When all is said and done
Having to carry a whipping boy
That’s expecting that we
Though tired and trained to painfulness
Must run and try to be
First when all the ligaments
Are tight and suffering we
Would rather drop as many of us
Do in agony.
