Rib damage can be painful
This week I found out
Just how very sore it feels
Left without a doubt
Bending down to pick up a book
That had fallen on the floor
I managed to squash myself sadly
And the pain was good and raw

A sharp crack became evident
Followed by some pain
Left me flushed and aching
And my sense began to drain
Breathing becoming painful
Moving painful too
I thought to go to hospital
To see what they could do

An X-ray might be possible
But yesterday when I
Went to Hemel Hospital
No word of a lie
All the souls there were wonderful
Helpful to a tee
Examining my chest and ribs
They helped me marvellously

Giving blood more difficulty
As many might attest
Either arm or hand felt dry
At Pathology one can’t deny
Getting fresh blood out of me
Is difficult and so sadly
A number of them tried
Their wondrous patience they provide

Caring and sharing thoughtfully
Keeping me warm it felt to me
Despite how busy they seemed to care
It was relieving to just be there
Sadly my double hip cannot be
Not for a while apparently
Rib pain ongoing
Is really sore
And weakening you just know what for

I can vouch, for the splendid way
Each of them helped anyway
The extra mile and further they
Gave to me I have to say
Reception, Pathology everywhere
All of them did really care
Happy smiling persevering
Efficient souls and so endearing

Breathing deeply it reminds
Just how uncomfortable and finds
Ways to remind the injured they
Must slow down a bit and right away
All of the ladies they helped me
Wheeled me out of the cold
And helped me be

More relaxed and warm for I
Was suffering and we now know why
Damaged ribs and arthritically
Becomes woeful and honestly
Feeling lonely and a bit sad
Even if you are jack the lad
Still can weigh one down and I
Was cared for and I now know why.

A phone call received that my opp would be
Cancelled and so seemingly
It was best to wait til the ribs calm down
And so I drove back through Hemel town
Ate some food and some herbal tea
And just felt better actually
Putting patients at ease is good
Their service done so well which could
Make one happier so I say thank you all
For the brilliant way
