Getting to the root of the matter

A most noble fox
Stands proudly where he
Was put at the top
Of a little green tree
Has it had its roots cut
Possibly so
Being at the top
It will never grow
A fox made of wood
Isn’t good
And that’s very sad
In the scheme of things
