Cashew Nuts

In Kenya the women
A shelling the cashews
Suffer like crazy
Burning that be
Coming from acid
Anacardic acid
Disfiguring hands
So painfully

At £2 per day
It really is painful
And these days
These cashews are used
Quite a bit
In plant milks in chocolate
Inside vegan products
It upsets me greatly
How all this does sit

In the green revolution
Not wanting cruelty
These African women
Get injured each day
It isn’t fair
We should be more aware
Animals matter
Kenyan women do too
500,000 Workers it’s true

It very corrosive
The plant in the same
Family as sumac
And poison Ivy
By name
They need more protection
For now severe pain
It’s really unfair
I think it’s insane

To expect these sweet women
To suffer so much
Just lousy gloves
People are out of touch
As vegans all life is sacred and we
Must think about ladies as well
Constantly .

shelling these nuts
If it causes them pain
Then as vegans we must
Help them refrain
In Gerbana that’s Burkino Faso
I know
My friends Equal Exchange
Their strong morals flow

Allows use of cashew oil
That protects them
They be
Also using maize flour and lemon juice
They
Find that their hands Feel much better
Each day

Think about the workers
Women who try
To work for a pittance.and then go home and cry
Cry when alone
It’s really unfair
Our hands are important
Which is why we must share
knowledge and love
With everyone we know
