Muntjacs

For 30 million years
These beautiful beasts have roamed
Our world
Barking Deer or Rib faced Deer
Their beauty they have just unfurled
Wandering through our forests
And hedgerows quietly, they
Are said to be invasive
So are shot just any day

No close season so hunters
Get to their mission they
Make excuses for killing them
It’s their sickness
Anyway
A godly soul created
Muntiacus they
Are growing in numbers
Which I am pleased to say

They are described as browsers
Of Woodland herbs and plants
The understory it is said
Gets a pasting not by chance
Gardens close to woodlands, new leaves
Courgettes and pumpkins they
Make short work of asparagus
And lettuces
Acorns are a favourite
Fruits and berries too
They truly are a delightful soul
But we hear that the EU

Wants them killed by hunters
It happens sadly they
Sometimes end up as Road kill
A tragedy, and they pay
All of us animal lovers
Are Fearful of the day
Car drivers on these country roads

Just Drive too damned fast
