Chicken and fear

Fear loads and loads of it
Chickens do realise
There time is short
A mere month or so
48 days to peck in the grasses
And then it’s them throttled
To heaven they go
Looking for crawlies
And snails if they are lucky
Out on the edges spiders appear
Losing their Comrades really too soon
That’s why they shake in their sleep
Down to fear
