Mrs Hedgehog

On the way to Rollrights

for solstice late at night

we came upon diversions

and saw in the moonlight

A darling  little hedgehog

Just crossing the street

we stayed and watched her safe passage

and it was such a treat

the tiny spiny mammal

Erinaceus Europaeus

with it’s tiny little tail

shuffling and grunting

on its forage trail

zig zagging a little

she probably could hear

after slugs and snails to eat

it was great to see her here.
