Red kites

A beholder a viewer a sentinel who

searches the  ground for the

carrion

you

must expect their   due calmness

inscrutably they

soar in their circles

serene so to say.

they resign themselves

to philosophically

to assuage

all their dreams and just remain

free.

a staunchness and constancy

unflagging they

like a fat juicy worm

and road kill

to say

carrion pleases them

voles mice and birds

add to their diet

in the Chilterns  great words

are shared by the birders

for raptors they are

opportunistic

And they are a star

collisions with power cables

can be a pain

Rodent cides illegal baits and

the insane

farmers whose  poisons

are left everywhere

Can  see that the  these spirits

they sail in the air

endurance and fortitude

unwaveringly

they fly overhead

a great place to be

carrion snatchers

unceasingly they

circle and mimic

the wondrous display

I love  the red Kite

with fire in its soul

plugging away

it knows its role

with a mind of its own

with a drama on board

with a whimsical manner

and delightful accord.
