Sheep and Patagonia

Human beings ignorantly
Consider sheep to be
Insensitive and stupid
But in reality
Sheep are extra sensitive
And so very aware
Emotional and endearing
Herd animals who share
A sense of responsibility
And an attitude, they do
And A need to be respected
Which nobody thinks is true
The sadness and the tragedy
Is that commercially they be
Victims of the arrogant
Farmers that I see

Out in Patagonia
In Chubut and Santa Cruz
Merino sheep are Kept For wool
And it’s tragic news
Their coats are fine and dandy
and appreciated by
Human beings who buy the wool
And believe just every lie
Nothing is further from the truth
It’s bedlam all the way
With ignorance and arrogance
And frustration yes they pay
An Awful price for being
In stations far away
Out of sight of caring eyes
Every single day

These stations are ungenerous
Acquisitive and wrong
They Tend to all cut corners
These animals don’t belong
Within such evil practices
Soundings every day
Their genitals Tied up so Tight
they wither and drop off
The fight
Inside themselves when suffering so
And No painkiller nothing to show
Only humans feel pain here
The sheep can weep that much is clear

When shorn mulesing
takes place that’s when
The skin is torn
These kind of men
Due to piece work rates of pay
It leads to accidents
It’s not the way
Wages should
be calculated
It’s far from good
Its complicated
Serious wounding
Bleeding sores
These poor souls
They Go through the wars
It’s not their fault
And they suffer so
And often no one wants to know
No vet to see
And in the heat
Infections really can
Unseat
The poor souls
Really party to
Poor workmanship
Yes all day through
Some are Shorn with broken limbs
Victims of a shearers rage
Sacrificed and body slammed
Yes Right off the page
Quarrelling and bickering
The staff At it all day
It’s vile and it’s unfortunate
That sensitive souls must pay

Expletives every which way
Punched and kicked at will
Some shearers get all stroppy
And victims they might kill
And then just used for dinner
It happens and it’s not fair
These are living breathing souls
And we all need to care
Human beings everywhere
Call dumbed down people sheeple
But that’s because they are asinine
Senselessly inane
Half of them are inadequate
And really in the main
They totally misunderstand
That sheep intelligently
Live their complex lives
In herds with eccentricity

As for handlers animals
Feel pain as we all do
Who likes to be beaten up
Or shouted at
Do you?
So why can’t we respect them
And realise that they
Each Have personalities
And why should they have to pay
So we can have a jumper
A woolly dress or two
Why do they have to suffer torture
Manhandled yes all through
And if there is an injury
Doing the right thing
Surely is the best way forward
So as to really bring
As least long bouts of suffering
For laid up sheep to rest
And not suffer an infection
Which After all could test
Their immunity and their long term health
For infections they can spread
The wool trade is a killing trade
and lots can wind up dead

A reason just to eat them
Inconsiderate of life
Of the gift that god gave all of us
Intervals where strife
In minimised and treated
With kindness and with care
The problem with commercial animals
Is that it’s unlikely people share

Well it’s not the way
There’s no excuse for animals abuse
But we see really loads of frightened sheep
Suffering they be
There are some 15 Million sheep

With jumpers and pullovers
The angels in the field
Slammed about and ready
To be part of the yield
Suffering in all sorts of ways
And then to have ones throat
Stabbed through and just bled out
It’s something all should note

It’s all done very angrily
In front of other sheep
Watching letting them realise
When their time is up they reap
The disregard the coming death
The frightening exclaim
You see their eyes I tell no lies
The end it does inflame

The spirit and the humanity
One thinks one is and feels
These are thinking caring
sharing Souls and that reveals
A terror and incompetence
Mismanaged and inept
And causing so much agony
Which tragically is swept

Away
