“MR KISSES”

In a derelict building
Against an old wall
He laid as forlorn
Didn’t move at our call
His eyes staring upwards
Empty and alone
A little lost soul
No joy had he known
His back legs collapsing
A weariness we
Could see at a glance
In his eyes staringly
Looking through us and passed us
Into a place
So unexpressive
A meaningless space

Back at the hospital
He was so low
Laid there not moving
No fractures on show
But very exhausted
His spine injured, we
Loved him and patted him
And let him see
That he’d reached a place
Where love and where care
Was now all around him
So many would share
Their smiles and their petting
And true sympathy
And help him to heal
Which he did earnestly

His nerves had to heal
His heart had to too
Neglect over long periods
What that does do
Is gets to the soul
And reluctantly we
Lose sight of the future
And life generally
constantly non accepted
We then just decline
And wither away
The sun doesn’t shine
Anymore in our hearts
And so love coming back
Can be instrumental
In avoiding the flack
“Mr Kisses” just loved being
Loved by us all
Kisses and cuddles
For him were the rule
That cajoled and demanded
That he came to rise
And his joyful embrace
Reached up into the skies

No longer was he
In a paralysed state
He was leaping about
So much he did rate
TAil wagging Away
Cuddles and more
He just loves being with us
That much we are sure
