To be a cottage by the sea
Is something I would like to be
So said a mansion that was old
Who’ d stood 300 years I’m told
Looking out across the moors
It’s many rooms with walnut floors
Rich and dark and good and hard
Often polished often scarred
Panelled walls high ceilings where
Oil paintings of sea scenes were rare
To be a cottage by the sea
Is something i would like to be
For a cottage small
Where children scrawl
On floors so soft maybe a loft
Converted to a children’s space
Towards the ocean it might face
And rich salt Air might wander there
The sands might too, a palm tree view
A Mansion is a proud place and
I hope my owners understand
I need to find another place
Where I can show my other face
