Big game hunters

An experienced big game hunter
And his friend are on a hunt
In Zimbabwe after trophies
And apparently the brunt
Of what is now the mystery
That despite their knowledge
They
Were charged by two wild elephants
And shot them so they say
Had they not raised their guns to them
They themselves would have been
Lying crushed and dying
For clearly both were mean
And angry at their presence
Elephants you see
Are sensitive and caring
Of their family
Hunters have a smell about them
Oft arrogant and loud
They were after elephants
And this story, well it’s soured
For There wasn’t any witnesses
Just these two
And we know
Its unlikely they would walk away
From the hunt
With nothing to show

Having studied elephants
For a lot of years I know
Wildness is extraordinary
An all embracing flow
Of orderliness and harmony
Of matriarchal might
A foretaste to the future
And the everlasting light
You can feel the unity
It’s durable and strong
Their destiny inescapable
It’s just where they belong
Zimbabwe wants more money
It’s postcode lottery
Is selling off the wildlife
And letting hunting be
They have lots of animals
But their inability
Is flogging them and earning
Which the world will not agree
And so they feel impotent
Powerless and so weak
And so they welcome hunters
With their game of hide and seek
Except much of its canned and trophy
All fixed so to say
The animals do not get a chance
And cannot get away
It’s all about the package
Shooting is one thing
Then it’s taxidermy
And the trophies they can bring
Out of where they are
To friends and folks of course
Who can share the lies they sell them
as a matter of course

As for the destruction
Of the elephants before
Why would experience let them down
And blood and gore
A mother and her baby
Lost apparently
Who were set to knock the hunters
Back Into obscurity
