Stonehenge a tunnel

Contrast what exists
To what it will become
A short excavation a tunnel
That some
Might see as essential
But tragically
They
Have no eyes to feel
Nor a heart to display

A world heritage site
Monuments galore
Neolithic persuasion
No one should ignore
A landscape of uniqueness
Sacred and sure
Monuments everywhere
All rare and raw

Our government agencies
Lack judgement here
They have no irreverence
For me it is clear
Such a desecration
Unflatteringly
Will destroy the perspective
Of all that we see

Settlements ditches banks
Its all there
Enhancing The history
To those now aware
Round barrows and burial sites
There beyond
Detracting from what is
A wonderful bond

With nature with ancientness
Really lets look
Across the chalk grasslands
To surrender each nook
and cranny
The emptiness
our motherland
Now If we clear back
We misunderstand

Truly a heritage
All that we see
Destruction it must not
Be the travesty
Of government thicko’s
With plundering thought
The placement the siting
Such wisdom is caught

Up in the layout
The historicity
Constructing a feature
A ruinous plea
A short flighted tunnel
Of pygmy design
To lessen the yawning the cavernous
Line
Infernal damnation
Of modern dissent
Its a total misnomer
its money misspent

Modern day minds
Taking ancientness back
To a time before now
Its an scornful attack
Its uncouthness and wrong
Its defacing the place
In a nutshell me thinks
Its one dreadful disgrace

Leave Stonehenge be
Its surrounds create form
Such a congruity
Part of a norm
Stretching back through antiquity
Even before
Such ramifications
Are going to flaw

What is a vast area
Steeped in history
Its conspicuousness seen
By the world its a key
Aspect of eminence
And what they propose
Is simple destruction
Under our nose

The Highways Agency
Matter of fact
Its about engineering
And how I react
To their minsicule mindset
clearly to say
What is there must stay there
And we never should sway

Away from the placements
Exacting and true
We live in our left brain
Our right brain though knew
The extent of the vision
That clearly is there
Of this digital nonsense
I do so despair

What will become of the monument
When
Modern expression the injustice
For then
We are left with
Inordancy and violation
A presumption of modernness
A lost salvation

Leave it be
Think beyond
The traffic today
See with our hearts
Let the blood find its way
Down in the depths
Create life force thats true
Not an ugly tunnel
For newagers to screw

Keep the great metal monsters
That churn up the soul
That bite into the sod
A presumptuous toll
On the landscape beyond and away
And below
Where our ancestors toiled
Obligated to show

What we have here is everything
Otherwise lost
And we have a duty
To preserve,
For the cost
Of losing so much
On a tunnel would be
Sacriledge monstrously so
Actually.

Since Covid great minds
Do apparently
Surmise that the traffic
Is going to be
Lessened electric is
Coming to bear
Down on the road
And thus does not compare

Its the traffic of Now
The long term view
Is reducing car ownership
And we see thats true
The Global philosophy
Now seems to me
Theres no need for the tunnel
The A303
will cope
Reduced traffic
Rehabilitation
With so much more under the site
Then the Nation

Can rest on its laurels
Knowing that we
Can maintain the henge
And the funerary
Monuments likely
Around the great site
For road building ruins
It all in plain site
