Duck hunting in Australia (victoria, south australia, tasmania and privately in NSW)

Apparently there is joy
Amongst Duck Hunters
When the season starts
They are out there
Killing, they
Use 12 bore shot guns
Buy their permits
And shoot these lovely ducks
Its the greatest sport
or so they say

Every hunter has to take an
Identification course
before they hunt
Not use lead
and retrieve all fallen birds
Clearly without policing all that, goes out the window
And apparently they are all out for a punt

There are prohibited species
But they still get killed
Lead is used, which is toxic as hell
Not just for the injured birds
But for the hunters them as well
The environment is suffering
There is a rampant spell

Of evil and great heartache
A waking nightmare happening we see
Pain and great affliction
Misery and prostration
A hopelessness and displeasure now there be

Lead pollutes, its banned but it is cheaper
And so the hunters use it they don’t care
Its disgusting and lamenting
Remorseful unrelenting
Its intolerable killing birds
Being aware

The damage that it does
Out in the water, on the banks wherever it may fall
Wounded ducks can suffer such malignity
A horrible ghastly end for one and all

What is wrong with so called hunters
And the government who allows
This evil calling it a sport
Its an abuse of powers
There are many illegals
Whose squalor many see
Who actually are philistines
Based around vulgarity

Is there any hope for sanity?
Not a glimmer i would say
They seem resigned to slaughter
In a diabolical way
Inconsolable injuries
Desolate forlorn
Ill omened and ominous
Clearly they seem torn

For me its purely killing
This is never sport
Red necks without empathy
Clearly over wrought
They possess a lack of wonder
And no duty of care
Its characterless confusion
Of the totally unaware

The fact that the states take money
Is a scruffy vulgar scheme
And then to not police it
Clearly they dont redeem
The honour its just compromise
Unhymned debunked unsung
Which attracts the unennobled
The loutish brutish bung

Where is the humiliation
Its humbling to see
Ducks still swimming with eyes shot out
Clearly in agony
Its shameless and insulting
The woundings that we see
And how cavalier some shooters are
Ill mannered actually

Inimical and unfriendly
Unsympathetic to the cause
Really rather hostile
Not prepared to pause
Distant and unwelcoming
Actively Aggressive and militant
They be
And at risk themselves of poisoning
Which so many fail to see
