Imperfections

Gaia from tbe beginning of time
Supposedly
Had dismissed her imperfections
As part of history
The elephant so much like man
In that the length of time allowed
Is close to them with humans
Clearly so endowed

With wisdom and with empathy
A good age in which to learn
But why give them great teeth of ivory
Would we discern
The difference using keratin
In the rhino’s horn
But what became sought after
And also became torn

From the souls for reasons
Other than how they were
Utilized by the animals
It never did occur
To creation that these materials
Would find another place
In medicine or in jewellery
A horrific disgrace

Human vulnerability
Left the pachyderms
Murdered in their thousands
We couldnt come to terms
With this method of recycling
A warped human trait
Defective and deficient
And bound to violste

A creature that was affable
A workhorse So inclined
A clearly enobled animal
With a sound and precious mind
A giant of land animals
Where the matriarch tends to be
Unlike the human kingdom
Patriarchal to a tee
And could this be some reason
Why the pachyderms afe killed
For Rhino horn and ivory
For both, their blood is spilled

Had gaia with her wisdom
Really never stooped to think
That keratin and ivory
Would drag them to the brink
Of survival in this world
Of spiteful frightful hateful greed
That tusks and horns would become
sought after in such quantities
By the human scum.
