Great white

Existence for them
Has been forever
Absolute given and true
Genuine physical predators
Actual objective a tangible force
A perfect killing machine
The ocean’s their home
Its where they roam
Great big teeth and rather mean

Thats how we see them
A long massive frame
A blueprint of genius
Good at the game
A frightening prospect
Such supremacy
High powered and commanding
Designed for the sea

For millions of years
They have Lived to the full
Nothing can phase them
So successful
But recently anyway
Apparently we
Humans are worried
About the salt sea

In Western Australia
Surfers abound
Its warm and the beaches
They surely astound
So more and more people
Go down to the sea
With their sparkly boards
With their wet suits they be

Enjoying themselves splashing about
Full of themselves
There is no doubt
The crash of the waves
And riding them well
Gives the ego a burst
In the blue of the swell

As ability increases
Enablement comes
There’s a kinetic energy
A beat of the drums
And its not unnoticed
That new energy
That red blooded
Spike
and that capacity

Humpbacks with calves
Now move closer to shore
Where other prey animals
Live in the raw
It draws in the sharks
The predators who
Bring their vigour and power
To a coastline near you

Thete are turbulent times
In the oceans we know
All sorts of danger
And toxins on show
Less whales being slaughtered
So more likely to
Be close into shore
A factor thats new

Shark fishing going on
Shark watching too
Pigs blood and pigs heads
Tossed in the blue
Humans in the water
Doing their thing
And sharks feeling hungry
Hoping to bring

Their purchase to play
Their charisma and power
The dominant predator
Will show us how
Our vulnerability
We fail to see
We know sharks live here
But we all hopefully

Suppress that fear
Why would they strike
Perhaps they are hungry
Just perhaps they like
Our kind of size
And our blood spill
And the fact that seldom
Are we ever still

There have been ten fatalities
In recent year
And the cry then goes out
With media fear
To murder all great whites
To kill them on sight
As if that will stop them
Are two wrongs right?

Beaches closed hits the pockets
Of town councils who
Dive shops and surf shops
And the ancillary crew
Sunshine and blue sky
Its what life’s about
Predation is natural
The balance must be
Maintained its the yin and the yang
In the sea

We dont live in the sea
We just visit the place
We want little bits of it
All over the place
If you like we invade
We parade we make noise
For us its not serious
Just one of the joys

For them its their life
They live and they die
They have greater senses
And some they apply
Far in advance of what we can do
On our fibre glass boards
Splashing out in the blue

We can be curious they can be too
Sniffing us out
Attentive a few
Want to show interest
Nosing around
And we unconcerned
About what might be around

This the scenario
And this could be
Why there are more attacks
Out in the sea
There are more of us
Messing about
Swimming and diving and surfing
Just out

In kayaks on jet ski’s
On boats we are there
Doing our dambdest to prove we dont care
We ignore we pass over
Reckless some are
We step on the stage where
The sharks are the star
