The order of ecology
And its methodology
Its really how they do things
In Iceland actually
Eider ducks and horses
Are apparently their thing
And they don’t conform to what we call
Farming which does bring
A duality of purpose
A timelessness in fact
The horses and the ducks
They do their own thing in a way
Forage for their own food
They do that from day to day
The ducks are shown the types of food
And where it can be got
And led out as they are growing
And homing so a lot
Although perhaps they do go away
Each year they may return
And the horses are left to be wild
And obviously they learn
But winter when its really cold
Up on the mountains they
The owners go and fetch them
It is a clever way
Of managing the animals
And letting them be free
Feral in so many ways
And cared for successfully
I really like that idea
Because the animals can choose
For a lot of the time they are wild in fact
And seemingly don’t refuse
The winter break with humans
Away from the ice and snow
Where they can be looked after
Till in Spring again they go
And its certainly keeps the animals strong
And able to get by
And the animals seem to like this
Its seems to underlie
The unseasonableness of winter
As intrusive as it can be
Where with their foals they can be safe
And fed more regularly
Homing ducks apparently remember to return
Its noted in their psyche
Something they all must learn
A kind of trust from man to beast
That is fluent and is right
A standing I suppose for them
On a winters night
