I loved my life
Each breath of air
I know I am old
BUt still I share
The herd respects me
In every way
And I so love to live each day
My teeth are sore my gums are too
But I love my life
Of course I do
Our Mother Nature gave to me
This life I lead
And how I be
Eating by the lake one day
I felt a bullet and I did sway
Forwards backwards I felt taut
The pain was vivid and a thought
Came to me that man unkind
The hunter tribe
Me they did find
Another shot another pain
And seering heat drove me insane
I had to run to run away
Locked in what was pure dismay
As I ran I heard them coming
Another shot my heart was drumming
Music of a different kind
I was trying to unwind
To fly to leap to get away
But they were many I can say
Another bullet hit my flank
And another hit another shank
Limping bleeding weakening by
The minute, was I going to die?
I could smell those hunter men
Their stench was rotten and now
When
And how could I just get away
Make it to the cave let’s say
Hide in there and if I must die
Die in the darkness by and by
But they caught up with me and I
Realised that I had to die
Crying out and wondering why
And then I fell with one last sigh
I would never see the matriarch
Never hear the morning lark
Never see the day or dark
Bush meat was my goal
They would carve me to the skies
In the local tribes mans eyes
I would be their strength
it seemed
In all my life
I had never dreamed
I closed my eyes for the last time
Hoping Rex would write a rhyme
To remind you all that I loved life
Till the Hunter man took out his knife
