Cyanide and this time 5 men killed with it

This was inevitable that it would happen
For the negligence that surrounds
Cyanide a black market poison
So doing the rounds
It’s fast acting and it’s deadly
It’s quiet and very cheap
Salt licks water even oranges
This enmity runs deep

It’s used in making paper and making textiles
And mining gold
It’s sold from mines illegally
That’s what has been told
The inventory control systems
Are lousy to be sure
And there is a lack of tracking
And people do ignore

Poaching syndicates smuggle
This stuff in and out
Some police have been implicated
and employees to in doubt
It’s a really awful way to die
So these poor souls would have known
That something bad was going on
For it hits you like s stone

Psychopaths are heartless
They manifest no care
They put this stuff around the place
Knowing it will cause despair
And many many elephants
Have already been lost
And vultures and so many others
Such a far ranging cost

And the fear that is engendered
It touches every one
It terrorises everywhere
Underneath the sun
It’s a dastardly desertion
Of feeling and of care
Totally irresponsible
For all life forms that are there

This is a personal tragedy
For those brave men and we know
Their families it’s just terrible
And the fear and hatred grow
Africa is losing its iconic angels to
A vile and grotesque element
Who don’t know what they do

If they understood the results of this
Action everywhere
It all becomes so ridiculous
The comfort less despair
How this poison ripples everywhere
Killing as it goes
The ingloriousness of such an act
The true cost grows and grows

Let’s think of these victims who were cut down
By rogues ignorantly part of the poaching scene
And reaching an evil that has now been the cause of 5 brave men losing their lives.

Just heard this afternoon that the men have been found alive and well and the story was put out
Before the truth was known that is good news

But the poem was still useful in that I learned about how easy it is to move cyanide via the mining operations around Africa so not a complete waste of time
And many animals have perished already this year using this method of killing them
