The Mapogo Lions

Six brothers formed the Mapogo Pride
In Sabi Sands Reserve
Each was a massive muscled soul
With so much strength and nerve

Leading such a charmed life
Heading this great pride
Confident these custodians
Which nobody has denied

Impregnable invulnerable
Unassailable all six
Any stranger venturing close
Would be in some fix

They were dangerous such protectors
Of their mighty pride
Their warning scents
were everywhere
It was all within their stride

To offer such protection
And the fatherly eye
Defenders anyone who dared
Come close was going to die

Over forty Lions attempted
To this and they died
And were eaten, thats the measure
Of the Mapogo Pride

That is unprecedented
Lions don’t eat each other
But these six ruled their territory
Brother after brother

As fierce as ever any Lion
As really ever been
They were huge their power of course immense
And in many ways obscene

They put the fear of god
Up any stranger
Until time moving on
Killed off the clan
And the Southern Pride
Took back some of the territory
Leaving two of the brothers
And the plan

Makhulu and Pretty boy
the last remaining two
Wandered off to find a place
A sanctuary to do
A spot of resting till the end game
One 14 and one 9
Very old for active souls
And each had worked the line

Looking at them they were both
Magnificent to see
Great big profound eyes of yellow
Staring into thee
Everything about them reminded us that they
Were The kings of their jungle
Who always got their way

They were faultless with their strict command
Paragons in fact
Scatheless through their many battles
In which they would react
With a massive amount of anger
They were vital they were sure
And any animal coming close
Would end up blood and gore

They had struck an undertaking
To protect and that they did
They all swung into action
Ready to lift the lid
To implement the removal
Of any intruder who
Thought to make their entrance
Which quite a lot did do

But all were rapidly torn apart
And eaten by the pride
Nemesis had taken over
For they all relied
On the unity of the brothers
It took them to great heights
Each trial of strength they so opposed
Turning off the lights

Confronting all and sundry
With the chivalry of war
They mobilized their muscles
Knowing what they were fighting for
And because of this they have become
Legends in their life time
Stories have been written
And now this little rhyme
