Seahorses

Such wonderment really is keenly
Bestowed on the wanting
For possessing eyes
That will see
A fish that looks like
A delicate horse
That breathes underwater
But how can that be?

A truly remarkable
Beautiful being
Able to mimic the colours
Around
Magical thought patterns
True and belonging
And in peaceful places
They sometimes abound

They dance in the faint light
They cling to each other
Romantic clutches
And kisses galore
The male collects her eggs
And he will give birth
Will nurture their babies
For all he is worth

She will come back to coax him
To love him to care for him
And her wee babies
Coming out from his soul
They dance in the mornings
Their love is forever
Despite the great ocean
They stay in control

It is man and his arrogance
That changes everything
Destruction of mangroves
And coastal plains
Sea grass bed cutting
And corals abutting
sea horses sadly
Find themselves in chains

Habitat loss
Now great zones where sadness
Fill every magical shell
Everywhere
What will become
Of the infinite wonders
Drifting and lifting
Into despair

Soldiers of fortune
The Orca’s the dolphins
The great whales all great souls
May deepen their search
And down in the darkness
May discover Nirvana
A portal away from
Those who would besmirch
