Mae Bua Loy another elderly elephant

250 acres of park
Within Chiang Mai
37 elephants
A sanctuary
No lie
400 dogs
50 buffalo
30 cats for sure
2 horses
And 2 pigs a monkey
And a cow
They all adore

The Mae Taeng Valley Sanctuary
For there the sentient do
Live a quiet life of reflection
All are good and true
One soul possibly the oldest
Mae Bua Loy she be
Really old with a broken leg
But is loved fortunately

Her name means rice ball
In coconut milk
A strange name I must say
She now is susceptible to the colder nights
Her history made her pay
She was once on the logging gangs
Such hard work and such strain
And then went begging in the street
And her poor feet felt such pain

Now she is in the Elephant Park
Cared for everyday
Along with other elephants
Who truthfully display
A lot of love for this old girl
Whose mood swings can be great
Remembering the logging and the begging
And the weight
Pulling hefty logs through jungles
It can really mark
Ones character forever
The work was hard and stark

And now she finds it difficult
To get up if she is down
Sometimes a crane is now employed
To really go to town
Age and all that struggle
Takes its toll on all
But she is living quietly
And answers when they call

Its always good to see this
A sanctuary where care
And love is given freely
And lets the world then share
This old lady has been tortured
But she now can rest a while
In a perfectly lovely valley
Where she can reconcile

Her feelings, and emotions
She must be glad to be
Somewhere people do not
Exploit her where she can see
Freedom of sorts now helping her
To see the great blue sky
To taste the greenest shoots around
And when the time comes die
