Dead Lions and the Maasai

The Maasai in Tanzania
Are clearly in violation
Of every sacred principle
In the saddest Nation
Lions once Kings of their surroundings
Now resorting to
Complete starvation slaughter
And the conflict that does ensue

6 Lions killed by tribesmen
Their livelihoods threatened by
The starving Lions
Both sides misunderstood
Yes the Maasai
They sell and eat their animals
And if Lions get in the way
Clearly it’s big conflict
Where in this case they did pay

Wild Lions are endangered
So it’s not the right thing to do
Kill them in some murderous jaunt
But then they take the view
That livestock is important
And Lions just cannot come
And eat their precious cattle
It is hard and so some

Desperate to feed Their families
Their instinct from before
See groups of animals penned up
I mean to say for sure
How do you stop them coming
And the Maasai ought to see
But are blinded by their own demands
So it’s conflict now that be

Out there causing much concern
For undoubtedly the Lions
Do generate more tourists
With money and the signs
Are that it’s counter productive
But the Government must try
And sort this out with the
Charities and those now who rely

On everyone living side by side
And realising they
Cannot go on killing sprees
It just is not the way
It was in the Babati region
On new years eve when they
Snapped and sent their killers out
To make the wild souls pay

Killing lIons is stupid
It’s cruel and lacks the thought
Then they are desperate people
Feeling they are caught
Up in the general melee
Of losing land to hunting
And of now losing their livestock too
Their little bit of bunting

The froth of life the bargaining power
And so they kill and we
See terrible pictures of 6 dead Lions
Which really must not be
Each must see the others case
And try and understand
Not retaliate and slaughter
And so risk the all their land

Africa needs Lions to be
Roaming that’s for sure
The wild ones have their heritage
So to bring them into war
Is totally wrong and senseless
The spirit has to be
More caring and more sharing
And more daring actually

Killing Lions who feel desperate
Who are starving in the wild
They only do what we would do
Habitat loss has riled
The kings they need predation
And the Maasai have to see
Herding animals into pens
Will bring lions obviously

The wild life causes problems
As does lack of thought and care
So government has to jump on this
And involve the aware
Only with combined effort
Can this problem be resolved
We have to prove we can so this
And by doing so have evolved

Each has need and each must be
Catered for of we shall see
All out war and much bloodshed
And wild souls like these 6 now dead
The killing has to stop and we
Must help the kings to really see
Give and take and also share
And really all be more aware
