Rinelle Harper

Missing and murdered women
Is a serious affair
Humanity has now to stop
And realise how rare
Women in the community are
And we have to see
That they are equal
Everywhere they go
It seems to me

Within First Nations government
There has to be a way
Of giving women there a vote
Giving them a say
They cannot be subservient
Why should they anyway
They have as much right on this earth
As men do
And they pay

a great deal in
The emotional power
And have to realise
Their ethnic potentiality
For they too are so wise
We need their femininity
It’s essential and we must
Forgo this patriarchal stuff
Because it isn’t just

Prejudicing everything
It’s sending out concern
And outside the community
Others need to learn
The power of the First Nation women
The skills that they possess
So many being murdered
It’s important that we stress

They have their own identity
And can transform so much
The turmoil in the offing
Is devising them as such
Rinelle was beaten badly
Her confidence was low
She was a first nation women
A survivor as we know
Addressing the big meeting
She took the beating and she
Came back to make it obvious
How she wanted to see

Women given a greater say
In the future which they are
Integrally a part of
Through this mishap may scar
Some it didn’t daunt her
She came right back to show
The men who run the nations hierarchy
Have to grow

It’s grow and accept the women
Accept an equal stance
And show the others outside this land
That they have to have that chance
They have to walk their talk
They really have to be
In the now and in the future
Living equally
