in the embers of a bygone age
one remembers the ash
that was once as tall as the house I lived in
but was torn down in a flash
the frackers took their energy
and forced our town to be
broken as the earthquakes came
to ravage us constantly
our water it was spoiled alas
nothing to drink no more
the aquifers were polluted
with their chemical wrath and gore
the air was thick with methane
even the healthy felt
the asthmatic’s they were lost for sure
when all the cards were dealt
the corporates all powerful
they lived on their islands far
away from the contamination
they were the blooming tzar
they were rulers of their world
we were the slaves and we
choked on the methane
drank the shit water
and were raped by their constancy
the tories took the rap for it
in our hearts and minds
death and destruction was all around
everywhere the signs
the sickly were dying
the babies crying
the old had passed away
the sick were sicker
the thick were thicker
and all of us did pay
