You’ve seen and you want and its for a lifetime

You’ve seen, a special dog

you’ve seen its picture

you want a special breed

and that’s not me

so you went to a breeder

who breeds all those special dogs

whilst here in the shelter

there’s plenty to see

we yelp in the evening

we yelp in the morning

we cry on our own

when nobody comes

we wait at the window

we’re hoping to see you

when nobody comes

when nobody comes

you went to a breeder

where dogs in the picture

there they were standing

what did you say

you bought one and took it home

it was, what you wanted

and so you left us

in the shelter today

I was born outside your gate

nobody wanted me

I was a stray a mongrel to you

I stand in the shelter

my heart is a beating

but nobody wants me

and that much is true

so off to the pound

to the  place where they take me

an injection is coming

and soon I will be

out in the ether  for nobody wants me

I’m just a mongrel

as you can see

I wish you had seen me

my eyes are so soulful

I wish you had come here

and I would have shown

my love for you matters

I know that it matters

but I was neglected

and I died all alone
