The Right whales last count 500 Left inspired by Katharine Chambers

There’s only about 500 in the North Atlantic now

we’re big some of us 60 feet

and up to 80 tons

the whalers of years past who hunted

called us r”ight” for hunting

runs

we made, as we sat high and slow

easy pickings as you now know

and discarded fishing tackle too

we get tangled up in it

we do

discarded tackle can be a pain

getting tangled in it again

causes frustration and agony

and a lot of us die,  now tragically

quietly sailing in the blue

there is no earthly reason to

expect the ocean free of line

for its often strong but very fine

so the ship speed rules

if they are maintained

gives us a chance

and, a chance gained

will help us  through

the ocean and

improve our lot

and understand

we are those gentle giants who

sweep through the ocean

and plankton too

our lives are peaceful

and hopefully, we

can share the ocean

and always be

at peace here

with your honest care

we can grow our numbers

and all be aware
