The sands of time are running
the wildlife lends an ear
to the trumpeting of Elephants
who now all live in fear
the herds of gentle giants
sociable loving souls
who understand the rules of life
but ivory controls
their stress and the frustration
for man un kind now comes
not with spears and poisoned darts
and not with any drums
he comes with heavy rifles
and power tools
and we know
the poacher men are on our case
and we know when they show
that they will murder all of us
our babies even will
perish in the blood bath
for they just like to kill
anything that happens by
nothing will get away
these really rotten laggards
make every creature pay
unlike human beings
we never murder, we
share our lives with others
its how it has to be
but face to face with poachers
whose guns blaze dreadful fire
we stand to lose just everything
we know our future’s dire
Ivory the goal they need
our precious tusks they use
carve it into ornaments
yes they do abuse
us every single one of us
who lost our life to them
knew that it was over
and from where the lust did stem
the anti poaching units
are out there now we see
and they are getting stronger
and will hopefully
save the rest from being killed
as markets begin to close
we may still have a future
only the human knows
if he can leave us well alone
and really let us be
free to roam the plains of Africa
and just thoughtfully
taste the fruity baobab
and wander here and there
not suffer from the mayhem
that leads onto despair
last Friday some bold people
became an Ele Pal
they went down into London
somewhere near Pall Mall
they waved and gave the thumbs up
to taxi’s passing by
who hooted their acceptance
which is really why
we heard those distant trumpets
fleeting across the skies
they reached our ears in Africa
it was not a surprise
there are folks that do love us
and give their time to show
others that we should be saved
as most of you now know.
Thank you
