Orca

I look across at Sea World

and imagine how they got

really quite so arrogant

for intelligent they are not

they took a proud and skillful soul

accomplished lets us say

a master of the oceans depths

with an innate precious way

of hunting based on experience

on its creative brain

a brain much bigger than

the human species

who attain

intelligence its true to say

but nothing on the scale

of the intelligence the orca

has

his prowess leaves most

pale

of course he”s taught by nature

he has instinct but also

he has a brain to figure out

the best ways he can show

the safest way of hunting

the ease he should display

they work together in a pod

proficient in every way

this guile this cooperation

is a strength few creatures see

they are anything but selfish

they food share naturally

so adaptable to environments

and to whatever prey

they can exploit ,their genius

clever in every way

now imagine all this knowledge

and Sea World, decides that they

will capture Orca’s and train them up

to form a great display

it sort of reminds me of King Kong

they are King Kong of the sea

they are huge and fast

and built to last

and have feelings and memory

thus you can never hurt them

never disturb the pod

never kill or maim them

if you do it could be a sod

the Orca will never forget that

the orca will bide their time

and if they fill downtrodden

out of their pit they will climb

It was a silly idea

an arrogant display

unthinking really and quite daf’t

to try to make them pay

to haul them from the ocean

and put them in a tank

a concrete mass of water

that soon gets rather rank

watch the orca families

see how they communicate

each pod has a system

a language

they berate

each other, and look after

each other it soon shows

when plucking orca’s from the ocean

it doesnt make for prose

it doesn’t make good poetry

it doesn’t make a song

the beat the meter all of this

it kind of   feels all  wrong

recently the film Black fish

told a story  thats when  we

watched “Tilikum”

the Orca suffer incredulously

Sea World might not hack it

but this great beast he knew

he suffered at their hands

when he was younger

and his view

was saddened by that experience

and the arrogance they had shown

how he and other Orca’s were left

and felt alone

dismal was their outlook

desolate with dismay

put upon and lied to

which was man’s sick way

it must feel quite provocative

it challenges their soul

its really rather reckless

to try and control

and not expect

retaliation

to intimidate

but feel

that you have the upper hand

with them

which truly isn’t real

And when the shit does hit the fan

the blame game comes to be

thats what human beings do

throughout history

but Orca’s on the other hand

they know they have the power

and they will perhaps try again

and make the whole thing sour
