Rollright’s

Rollright’s there was noticeable vibration

a sensation of creation could be felt
the stones were so exposed to wind and weather
the treetops took a hammering and were dealt
a clattering of circles old rook roosts did spin
and clearly the moles had been active from deep within
all around the circle fresh earth mounds were so apparent
pushed up through the heavy ground to spill
their dance of divination with all their animation
clearly a demonstration of their skill

the darkness fell in quickly
as we watched the shadows lengthening
a chilling rain fell violently
adding to the effect
we walked around the muddy path
jostled along along by the by the
darkening wrath
clearly there were changes
to detect

a number of souls were here and around
wandering the hallowed ground
a group were huddled in their space
as great darkness fell around the place
we carried our light to the quarter stones
feeling the chill inside our bones
when the sun then entered Capricorn
the vibration changed like a new dawn
the wind drew up with a curtain of power
we observed its force with a need to cower
in its vital clutches, and then we felt
a new vibration had been dealt

we walked the circle and decided to
visit the Kings Stone good and true
the light was concealed by a blackening mass
as we opened the gate to a green morass
slipping and sliding we trailed on down
the great Kings Stone with its mossy gown
loomed out of the darkness and once again
another vibration we seemed to gain
using our flashlight’s we lit up the scene
and took a photo of where we’d been
it was blowing a gale now
and the wind possessed
ice cold shards clearly to test
us all as our marrow chilled inside
we imagined those moles as they all did hide
down in the depths of the sodden soil
clearly exhausted from the toil
pushing those mounds up one by one
creating their castles as they had done
