Why and Who?

Half of his body is burned
and Jacob knows
his pain is intense
even between his toes
somebody did this
and of course this dog knows
after this vile abuse
the pain grows and grows
how this little chap manages
what can he do
every hour of each day
and the whole night
through
chemical damage what’s it a about
why is it happening
most would want out
but clearly this soul
is resilient for he
lives on his strengths
and his audacity
but just to imagine
the pain he is in
and whoever did this
to try and begin
to understand why
what makes people do
such evil acts
then live their life through

this animals knows
who did this he knows
but he cannot tell us
in him it grows
the frustration no doubt and the anger too
for his sick attacker

why did he do
what he did
could it possibly be
someone you know
someone down the street
some so and so
a neighbour perhaps
near where you eat
it could be anyone
who might mistreat
a dog like this dog
and not get found out
leaving us all really
in so much doubt
