More women hunting

More women hunting
for food for the table
the reason behind this
to prove they are able
to kill for their supper
fresh meat is the thing
it saves on the food bills
and this has to bring

an intimacy to the food
that they serve
to kill it, to skin it
to gut it, the nerve
is raised for the hunter
the women, for she
changes places with the man
and perhaps destiny

deer blinds and tree stands
and rifles galore
women are out there
in fact more and more
and where are the blokes then?
what do they do
look after the toddlers
and clean out the loo?

to my mind DRESSED up
in the camouflage gear
is not very female
to me its unclear
the killing of animals
just shouldn’t be
the dominion of women
I just cannot see

the reason behind this
compassion had roots
in the female the mother
if she now shoots
and kills the society
is at a low
to me its all over
if such things should grow

let’s go back to the first people
women were great
they worked like the clappers
one could not berate
them for all they did around
camp and beyond
grubbing up trees and sowing
a bond

existed with nature though
that was their thing
they were honouring life
the light in the spring
mimicking men
to my mind doesn’t work
slaughtering animals
that work I’d shirk

be mindful of what you are doing
for you
are the hope of enlightenment
fresh and so new
your graceful resilience
bound up in the way
you look after the children
and the farmstead each day

is filled with ideas
and you manage them all
resourceful and magic
always on call
but never out side in the field
with your gun
or out in the forest with
something you’ve hung

aggression of this sort
was never the choice
you are after all more advanced
and your voice
to hear in America
more of you are
out in the wild
really quite far

shooting wild ducks
and killing wild deer
and skinning and gutting
without any fear
some of you fearful
of commercial meats
of the GM and chemical
corporate cheats

that are filling your baskets
and making you ill
and usurping your income
by raising each bill
and this is why you
are now decked out in gear
all this investment
you’ve written off here

for this is now long term
a hunter you are
in the backwoods
of course you decide your the star

its a sad day for women
a sad day for all
with the trillions of farm animals
who do call
attention to cruelty
you choose the path
to kill off wild creatures
and let them feel the wrath

not of the men but the women now too
who take on the expression
and kill why they do
why take the negative
I can’t explain
creation the catalyst
it seems in vain

the bringer of life
is now a killer too
you kill someone else’s child
that must slay you
it must for you know
what it is to bring life
into this world
and then kill with your knife

how can you do this
why have you slipped
down in the abyss
how have you tripped
why follow men into dark caves alone
assassins why do this
out there be known

with your thoughts
I would scream if someone asked me
to kill any earthling
who ever it be
to end a dear life
because I want to eat
for me it will never
be
it is no treat

the victim for that’s what they are
every time
women your chance came
and you did just climb
out of the pit and now you climb back
and go down in my ratings
and want to attack

its a tragic event
in the history, we
see the women with guns
and where can they be
in the order of things
in the measure of life
degraded and jaded
and loaded with strife
