of what he took a man made gun
and killed a female who
is probably a mother
and a lover and this will do
irreparable damage to the relationship
the cubs have lost their mother
the apex predator male
has lost his love
and like no other

the environment around them
and the pack have lost a soul
a leader with great wisdom
that gave them their control
the sentiment of the hunter
shows the ignorance that he
has for why the kid is out there
he thinks he ought to be
following in his fathers footsteps
that’s what men should do
better to follow your mother chum
provided she’s not clueless too

wolves are so important
they are not a target for
young men looking to appear cool
or having a private war
with a predator that can’t see them
who is picked off and is lost
just to stand there with a photograph
at an enormous cost

he smiles but can he understand
the grievous steps he caused
he just pulled a trigger
he possibly never paused
he just looked through that telescope
and saw that shape and he
pulled the trigger and watched it wander
into infinity

did he even contemplate
the sorrow in the pack
did he or his father see
they were a party to the attack
against a truly wild soul
who had never caused them ill
where was the compassion
why did he have to kill

what makes men really cruel
so ignorant of creation, who
to make a wolf to give her the instinctive
skills to do
remember she is wild
and in the wilderness to succeed
and bring a healthy family up
means what every soul does need

with children running about the place
their sights set on attack
wanting to have a cool day out
and a picture to take back

a wolf, the wolves are and should
never be targets that’s for sure
killing wolves who after all
were there in that place long before
the ranchers and the hunters
and the cool kid and the rest
they have years of experience
and are up to every test

so rather than a cool moment
in a young kid’s life
perhaps he may reflect a while
and imagine all the strife
that the pack is now in
tragically
which is what supposedly
hunters do not think about
when high fiving tragically

I took the quote for I reckoned
that it really said it all
how environments do suffer
when the fear factors fall
how prey animals proliferate
how vegetation’s torn
how saplings then get eaten
and trees therefore are gorn

leaves there will be fewer
and birds much fewer too
and insects they won’t be there either
and river fishes new
will not have enough insects
the environment will be
lost in many aspects
this is the mystery

of life its all connected
remove a pawn and you
cannot play a game of chess
the chess of life the view
ahead is sorely ruined
by the mindless with their gun
who came out for a cool hunt
and lost it in the sun

I am sorry avid hunters
I am sorry now for you
for what is your adventure
shows me your clueless too
if you only realised the need
creation saw to place
that female with that moment
whose now lost without a trace

the wheel of life keeps turning
but its weaker as we know
when we lose a spoke it is no joke
the strength some has to go
and taking out the predator
or taking out the prey
is creating chaos in the system
and all of us will pay

down the line remember that
for the countryside we share
it doesn’t belong to you or me
or him just be aware
the wolves the deers the rabbits
all have their place and they
need to live not be hunted
and not be made to pay

of for some kid’s cool day out
this is not what creation
ever is about
its not some scant expression
its life and its profound
and all I ask is that you lot
at some point will come round

and lets hope its not when all the wolves are gone forever
