A young lad and a dead elephant ( he supposed to have just killed it)

A young lad stands and poses
an elephant lies dead
goodness knows what’s going on
inside that young kid’s head
clearly he didn’t get there
on his own, we know
His father must have gone with him
probably to show
him really how its done
how you shoot a soul like this
get a thrill from murdering
and well making it spill
its blood into the hot earth
a trophy hunting creep
who gets his son to do it too
and what he sows
his son will reap

the lad is far too young
to realise what he has done
he pulled a trigger of course he did
it was cool he was having fun
what’s enjoyable about killing
what moral reason for
cutting down a majestic beast
getting to its core

with parents like this
one wonders
what chance this lad has got
a psychopathic father
who may have already shot
another creature in its prime
paid the mercenary to
line up a wild one to be killed
for that is what they do

sacrifice a life so
someone can high five like hell
can put their thumbs up and be seen
as a monster out of hell
his knowledge of the elephants
is probably next to nil
he lacks all understanding
which he probably always will

I fail to see the sense
of letting children own a gun
and letting them kill an animal
basically for fun
and telling them it a great day
when in point of fact of course
its a tragedy for the animals
to take them out by force
