Katie

Like an enormous puffball
created out of air
the Roundhouse its on top of you
yes suddenly its there
a great round ball like structure
a railway shed it seems
but now an area of creation
giving meaning to one’s dreams
last night Young Katie Melua
a diminutive young soul
who took the stage and rocked lets say
she transcended to a role
of a diva so resplendent
in her glittery first dress
this angelic soul from Georgia
was lovely I confess
her voice has so much clarity
power yet subtle tone
above that brilliant band of hers
her voice was heard alone
her command of glorious diction
swept all before her she
moved everybody in that crowd
to a state of such vivacity
the house itself is remarkable
its iron work and its shape
it lends itself to performance
its a world where one can escape
and the lighting was sensational
so creative full of flair
and the music the resounding beat
of the drums were everywhere
this was a fine production
the song choices so were
balanced and varied and beautiful
sung with a charming air
the band were unbelievable
the Georgian choir were too
and the combination of all of that
really led us through
some beautiful arrangements
with Katie’s clear pure voice
reaching to our inner selves
there was so much choice
and everyone delivered
with an inspirational call
this marked the end of her first
10 years
with this frankly heavenly wall
of sounds and lights and magic
that took us all by storm
on a brilliant night in October
the air was sort of warm
but the impact of her and her music
was remarkable for me
“Ketevan” her new album
which she sampled generously

In a state of some euphoria
we left and walk to where
we had left the car
just almost moved to tears
to have been there
the band was something else
truly I have to say
clearly the greatest talent there
the drummer I thought wow and each of them
really shone last night
their synergy was paramount
they created so much light

the roundhouse is a spectacular place
there is a friendliness that shows
a willingness to help
its an atmosphere that grows
and Katie spread the happiness
such emotion and such feeling
around those myriad circles
which was clearly so revealing
heads were rocking toes were tapping
it was powered up fun
everyone was happy
and I haven’t over spun
anything it was wonderful
a joyful night for all
a crispness and a clarity
and a gentle clarion call

Ketevan her latest album
brimming with new songs
with subtle tastes of Georgia
and the sea where she belongs
the back drop on the stage
was of a seascape and the form
gave us a lot of insight
to the approaching storm
and the light and the percussion
and that sweet voice rising free
created a great picture
to hear and of course to see

Thank you Katie you and your band of musicians
made us so happy
